November 2009
Dear Members/Friends,
First of all I want to thank all those who attended the Malta Day-UK in September last. – It was a great day and it really made you proud to be Maltese! Heartfelt thanks to the organising committee and the many helpers who volunteered and dedicated their free time to make this day a success. Sincere thanks and appreciation goes to all those who dressed up in Maltese Costumes and flag bearers who added the colours and Maltese authenticity to this event. Gratitude to all our sponsors and all those who bought tickets for the Grand Draw, without which, these proceedings would not have been financed. Our compliments to Collegium Musicum Resident Choir of Valletta and to the St Sebastian Wokingham Brass Band whose excellent performance lifted the profile of the Day and of course to our High Commissioner, H.E. Joseph Zammit Tabona under whose auspices these festivities were conducted.
Advent: During advent Fr Victor Camilleri will do Mass service every Sunday at St Boniface Church in Adler Street, Aldgate East, London E1 1EE, starting Sunday 6th December. On Christmas Eve, Thursday 24th December we celebrate mass with singing of traditional Carols in Maltese and English. The mass starts at 7.00pm followed by a social get-together at the Scouts Centre.
Christmas Fairs: This year we are holding two Christmas Fairs one at St Benet’s Church Abbey Wood and another one in our usual place at the Scouts Centre in Stepney Way East London. For more details on either Fair see the enclosed leaflet with dates time and venues. This should give you the opportunity to stock up with some of your favourite traditional Maltese products for the festive season. The Fair in Abbey Wood will be held on Saturday 28th November starting 2.00pm. This is a communal fair organised by St Benet’s Church and we are only taking part. There will be other stalls selling many Christmas products and it’s well worth the visit especially for those who live closer to that vicinity. For those north of the river, the Fair at the Scouts Centre will be held on Saturday 12th December starting 2.00pm. This will be an open day affair and besides getting hold of the Maltese product one can also enjoy a Christmas dinner or a festive drink! In both cases Father Christmas will be visiting and should be fun for all the children and adults alike.
New Year’s Eve Party: This year we are holding this function at the Thistle Hotel Marble Arch Bryanstan Street London W1H 7EH same as last. The party will start at 7.30pm and will go on till late (see literature). There will be a running buffet, which will include a selection of meats and vegetarian dishes, both hot and cold. The music will be a disco, provided by DJ Ricky Saliba, who guarantees a selection for all ages and we shall dance ourselves well into the New Year. At midnight we shall listen to Big Ben and join hands to Auld Lang Syne, while raising a glass or two of champagne. Tickets are: Adults £40.00, and Children (5 to 12 years old) £16.00. Children under 5 years are free. Entrance is by ticket only and bookings must reach us by Friday 18th December.
We now urge you to come and celebrate with us these festivities and join in the community spirit and the start of the New Year in a truly Maltese way!
I shall take this opportunity to wish you all a:
