June 2010
Dear Members/Friends,
Another year has passed and it’s time again for our annual Imnarja Celebration. Last year we changed the format of this function and held it as an open day with many attractions. As this proved to be quite successful this year we are keeping it the same only adding more attractions!
Imnarja: The feast of the Saints Peter and Paul marks an important event in the calendar of Maltese traditional festivities. Many a story is told about how people from all over Malta converge on Buskett to celebrate this popular feast. The scene is set for a feast of song and food beneath the trees. The appetising scent of fried rabbit entices the merrymakers to indulge in a good feed washed down with sweet local wine. The night is then spent in good-humoured mirth and fun, while revellers compete in singing bouts to the strums of guitars and popular local bands. Here in the UK we can only but try to simulate some of the excitement and traditions that this feast evokes. The Maltese Culture Movement is once again preparing in earnest for this celebration. This year all activities are being held at the Roland Philipps Scouts Centre in East London. The Centre is situated at 65 Copley Street, (off Stepney Way) London E1 3DF (see literature). For those with cars there are good free parking facilities. Look out for the Maltese Flag and refer to the map for the exact location. Venue Location: MAP>>
